2012 Shelby 1000 and 1000 S/C
2012 Shelby 1000 and 1000 S/C Show off at 2012 New York Auto Show
2012 Shelby 1000 and 1000 S/C - If you thought the 2013 Shelby GT500 had too much power, wait until you hear what Shelby American has cooked for the 50th anniversary of the original Cobra: the 950-hp Shelby 1000, and the track-only 1100-hp Shelby 1000 S / C.
Carroll Shelby and his team invented the Shelby 1000 as a follow-up of the 800-horsepower Shelby GT500 Super Snake. Under the direct supervision Shelby, the engineers went to work on the Shelby 1000, running a street car that has an impressive 950 hp from a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 packs.
No, that's not a typo. The 1000 Shelby's engine displaces "only" 5.4 liters, because it is based off the 550-hp and 510 lb-ft of torque 2012 Ford Shelby GT500. The recently unveiled 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 packed 650 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque under the hood of a supercharged 5.8-liter V-8.

So why not use the Shelby new 5.8-liter engine as the basis for the Shelby 1000? Our source tells us that Shelby was simply not available when Shelby American began work on the Shelby 1000. Waiting for the 2013 GT500 would have the project back a year or two, possibly missing the 50th anniversary of the Cobra's 1962 New York show debut.
The Shelby 1000's 950 hp (a figure we were told on the conservative side) is not achieved by just making more boost. Shelby went to work on the 5.4-liter mill, replacing the camshafts and valve springs, transferring the cylinder, the opening of the exhaust, and balancing the rotating assembly. The company also swapped in a 3.6-liter Kenne Bell supercharger and improved the cooling system.
The track-only Shelby 1000 S / C the 1000's modifications to the engine a little further by bolts on a 4.0-liter Whipple supercharger, American Racing headers and a Borla 3-inch exhaust system, which resulted in the crazy 1100 horsepower number .
As expected, Shelby was not only the power and call it a day. The Shelby 1000 and 1000 S / C both changes to anything extra power to good use. Shelby replaced the back with a new 9-inch unit, and installed a custom aluminum driveshaft. Shelby also made sure the 1000 can do more than to go fast in a straight line - it wanted to make sure the new high-powered Mustang was a corner or two to treat and stop.
Shelby essentially replaced the entire suspension of the Shelby GT500 1000 to create. The company installed a custom Eibach adjustable suspension, its own K-member, control arms and Watts link system. Braking duties are handled by Shelby six-piston front brakes and four-piston brakes at the rear. Both cars wear three-piece forged aluminum wheels in front and 20 x 9 20 x 11 wheels on back, with a "high performance tires" mounted on the Shelby 1000, Michelin and the Shelby Super Sports 1000 S / C.
Who is looking for a Mustang that looks radically different from your run-of-the-mill GT500 will probably be a little disappointed in the exterior of the 1000 Shelby's appearance. Shelby said the 1000 was designed with a "form follows function" philosophy, and is more about flying under the radar than the announcement has arrived. As such, all exterior changes are relatively small but fully functional. The 1000 Shelby gets a new hood with functional heat exhaustion, a functional front splitter, rear diffuser and functional. The only cosmetic touches to the 1000 Shelby gets outside of the application on the carbon-fiber splitter, side skirts and diffuser, and the "Shelby 1000" reflecting flanks, placed low just before the rear on both sides of the car.
Like the exterior of the Shelby 1000, the interior has largely left alone. The 1000 Shelby gets custom-brand sport seats and an A-style meter pod, and that's it. Otherwise, the Shelby 1000's interior is straight out of the 2012 Shelby GT500.
Because the Shelby 1000 is built like a 50-year anniversary present to Shelby of themselves, the production is very limited-only 100 units of the 1000s and 1000 S / C will be built. And that's not 100 of each, which is 100 in total. Each of the 100 Shelby 1000 and 1000 S / C of the built-in will be numbered and documented in the Shelby register.
With such a limited production numbers, the 1000 Shelby cost you. If you already have a 2012 Ford Shelby GT500 and want to get it converted to 1000 Shelby spec, it will return $ 149,995. If you like the Shelby GT500 to deliver, expect to pay at least $ 200,000, depending on the options.
The Shelby Shelby 1000 and 1000 S / C will make their public debut this year at the 2012 New York Auto Show, 50 years after the original Shelby Cobra made its debut in the Big Apple.
