New Concept Acura NSX Show down at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show
Acura NSX Showcase New Concept Detroit Auto Show - December 2005 is a month that will live in a bad - or at least, it will be among sports car enthusiasts. After five months before the official announcement that the Acura NSX sports car will come to an end, staff facilities will be built at Honda's Suzuka, Japan in the last Acura NSX to North American customers.
Fast forward seven years. Acura invited a select group of journalists to the dealer meeting in Las Vegas to experience things that will come. Along with the new sedan and RDX crossovers ILX, we laid eyes on the beautiful NSX concept shown here - and, better yet, received word that he is a preview of the actual production car.
What Trip, Long Strange It's Been
That silence between model NSX is not really the intention. Honda has been working on editing a flagship sports car for a while, but what once seemed a clear plan soon became tumultuous.
Let us summarize: although the first generation NSX Acura stopped in 2005, Honda began hinting at a sequel already in 2003 when it began with the HSC in the global auto show circuit. Two years later, while confirming the death of the original car, the company announced an effort to develop a successor "had intensified. '
In accordance with his words, a concept vehicle that hinted at such in early 2007. Advanced Sports Car Concept, which debuted at the American International Auto Show at Detroit's North, is said to show a new premium sports car, but many fans call it the Acura NSX difficulties. The reluctance is understandable, because the Honda formula pursue far from what we saw earlier. The ASCC avoided V-6 for the ten-cylinder engine, and also has a front engine layout and the system of all-wheel-drive.
Spy photographers caught and then test the prototypes on public roads, but the project did not last long. In 2008, an unstable global automotive market demand and economic stability led Honda to reconsider the priority - not surprisingly, a top-tier expensive sports cars is not exactly one of them. Although the road car development was canceled, the next project NSX engine served as the basis of the Honda HSV-010 GT race for the Japanese Super GT project.
Hopes grow again in early 2011, when Takanobu Ito, CEO of Honda Motor Company and a former engineer on the project the original NSX, confirmed his company back to work on a new Acura NSX.Acura NSX Clean slate
Shares of the latter approach almost nothing with the last of the company on the Acura NSX replacement piercing. Previous ideas, especially those calling for the ten-cylinder engine in the front passenger compartment, have been removed to support the approach officials believe much more in line with the Acura brand identity.
As with the original, the new Acura NSX put the machine right in the middle of the chassis. Machine will probably be a V-6, but that's where the similarities end with the original car. As happened almost two decades ago, Honda's engineers saw the car as a halo vehicle, ideal for presentation of engineering prowess and the latest and greatest technology.
Then the Acura NSX uses a new hybrid form of Handling-AWD system (SH-AWD) Super. V-6, maybe 3.5 or 3.7-liter engine, gearbox driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch. Unlike the SH-AWD system today, which will send power to the front wheels via a mechanical drive shaft and differential, wheels for the NSX will actually be supported by a pair of electric motors. Because the machine is assigned to each wheel, the system has the ability to speed up the wheels on the outside corners, creating a yaw moment that the car was able to turn and turn, will increase. All in all, the system will blow clean 400 hp.Acura NSX swoopy styling
Of course that kind of technology could pack into a simple wrapper is not enough for the halo car. Like it or hate it, this new Acura NSX sheetmetal certainly turn heads. Although the general proportions lend the Audi R8 and attitudes - that is, the track width, pushing close to the front cabin, etc. - the car has a visual identity.
Edgy Acura design language centers, but the besieged "beak" grille - a complaint long before Acura designs - fortunately could not be found. Thin LED lights give way to a panel of top grille dominates. Side panel of the car is relatively clean and pure, interrupted only by a fairly dramatic kicker light on rocker panels and character line that folds neatly into a pair of support tracks that move away from the roof itself. A thin line of LED wrap themselves in the rear fenders, running the entire width of the rear fascia, and effectively acts as both brake lights and center brake light. Our view model shows a complete lack of interior, but showing the instrument panel waterfalls that twin cockpit theme that the original Acura NSX evolved arc.
Although the Acura NSX is a car only in coupe form at this point, there were rumors of a convertible variant, supported in part by the appearance of similar-looking roadster to the set of the upcoming Avengers movie superhero. If approved for production, expecting a different car just in case, fender rear decklid, and side character lines.
Priority ProductionIt is still unclear whether the Acura NSX will use the architecture itself, or perhaps share a platform with other vehicles. However, it is almost certain to go into production. The officials told us that the development of this program is still in its infancy, but the car can be a large-scale in early 2015.
Will the hybrid sports car to scare some purists? Maybe. But that does not always equate a vehicle that is not fun to drive. As with the first Acura NSX, engineers strive for a balance between everyday driving nirvana and compliance - although this time with an ecological conscience thrown in for good measure.
"The Acura NSX will be a driver to drive for dynamic driving skills without getting in the way," Honda CEO says Ito. "Like the first Acura NSX, we express again high performance through technical efficiency - but even if we concentrate on the fun to encourage the spirit of Acura NSX supercar I think should respond positively to environmental responsibility."
