Fisker Officially Unveils New Audi A5 Rivaling Atlantic Plug-in Hybrid Sports Sedan [Pics & Video]

Fisker Atlantic  - It's show time for the maker of the Karma hybrid, Fisker officially as its new Atlantic mid-size sports sedan presented at a special event on Tuesday evening before the world premiere of the car on the  2012 New York Auto Show on Wednesday, April 4 .

Here is revealed as a design prototype, the Atlantic Ocean Fisker's first mainstream and mass produced vehicle. The company said that the car is aimed at young families who want to drive "an impressive, high-end car while making a positive statement about responsibilities."

The California-based automaker fell into specific details, but it is assumed that the Atlantic will start from less than $ 50,000, excluding all federal green tax credits, which may change the price reduced to just over $ 40,000 or less than half of the cost of the Karma.

Like the Karma sedan, the Atlantic is a plug-in series hybrid, which the driver can manually or automatically switch between electric and gasoline driving modes and the charge of the lithium-ion batteries keep moving.

But where the Karma uses a GM-source 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, the Atlantic's first model Fisker a turbo'd 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine used by BMW.

The standard powertrain will be configured for RWD, but Fisker will be an all-wheel drive version as an option to offer.

The exterior styling of the Atlantic contains the design DNA of the Karma in a compact, fastback package hidden behind the door handles and a large glass roof. The company has not revealed the car exterior dimensions yet, but said that the Atlantic is comparable in size to the Audi A5 Sportback.

"We are particularly proud of the Atlantic design prototype, and believe we have another breakthrough car that looks and drives like nothing else on the road in this class created," said Henrik Fisker, co-founder, Executive Chairman and Design Director of Fisker.

The Atlantic will be built on a former GM plant in Delaware. Although the work in the factory recently came to a halt as the U.S. Department of Energy blocked a loan to the automaker, Henrik Fisker told CNN today that his company about $ 400 million in private equity financing that would allow the factory ready safe for the production of the Atlantic.

Fisker says it will provide more details on the Atlantic Ocean, including prices and an on-sale date, closer to the launch of the production car to let go.
